ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Coal phase-out

Okay kiddo, so you know how we use coal to make electricity and power things like lights, phones, and computers? Well, some people are worried that using coal can harm our planet and cause things like air pollution and climate change.

So, what some countries are doing is called a "coal phase-out". This means that they are trying to use less and less coal over time until they stop using it completely. Instead, they are using other ways to make electricity that are cleaner and don't harm our planet as much.

Now, stopping coal use all at once wouldn't be very easy, so this is going to take some time. Countries that are doing a coal phase-out are creating plans to gradually transition to using more renewable sources of energy, like solar and wind power. They are also finding ways to make their homes and buildings more energy efficient, so they don't need to use as much electricity in the first place.

Overall, a coal phase-out is about making sure we have clean air to breathe and a healthy planet to live on, by gradually switching to cleaner ways to make electricity.
