Code enforcement

Code enforcement is when a city or county government makes sure that people living there are following laws, rules and regulations. This means they watch to make sure that buildings and places are safe and that people are behaving responsibly. For example, if a person builds something without a permit, code enforcement might check that it is safe and make sure they get the necessary permits. People who break the rules can be fined or have their building torn down.
