A code talker is a person who uses their native language to help people communicate secretly or to send coded messages during a war or conflict. Code talkers often spoke Native American languages such as Choctaw or Comanche, and the code they used was too confusing for the enemy to understand. For example, a code talker might use the Choctaw word for “turtle” to mean “tank” or the Comanche word for “rabbit” to mean “soldier.” Code talkers have risked their lives to help their country and to this day, they serve as a symbol of bravery for all Native Americans.
