Colluvium

Okay kiddo, do you see how the ground outside can have different layers of dirt and rocks? Sometimes, when it rains, the water can carry some of that dirt and rocks down the side of a hill or mountain. This layer of dirt and rocks that gets moved around by rainwater is called colluvium. It's like how your toys might get scattered around your room after you play with them, but instead of toys, it's dirt and rocks on the ground. People who study the earth and rocks might be interested in colluvium because it can tell them about the history of the place where it came from.
