Column (newspaper)

Okay, you know how a newspaper has a lot of different sections in it, right? Like there's one part for news, one part for sports, one part for puzzles, and so on? Well, a column is a type of article that you might see in the newspaper.

Imagine a column like a little story or opinion that someone writes every week or every day and it goes in the same spot in the paper every time. Just like how your toys have spots they belong in your toy box, a column has a spot it belongs in the newspaper. You always know where to find it when you open up the paper.

The person who writes the column is called a columnist. They might write about lots of different things, like what happened in the news that week, their own thoughts and feelings, or advice for people who have questions. They might even use funny jokes or pictures to make their column interesting to read.

So, next time you see a funny or interesting little story in the newspaper that always seems to be in the same spot every time, that's probably a column!
