ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Committee of correspondence

Imagine you have a big group of friends, and you all want to talk about something important together. But, it's hard to get everyone together at the same time and in the same place. So, you decide to make a secret group where you can all share updates and talk about important things even if you can't all be together in the same room.

That's kind of like what a committee of correspondence was during the American Revolution. A bunch of people who wanted to talk about what was happening in the colonies (the places where they lived) and share important news with each other decided to create a secret group. They called it a "committee of correspondence."

These committees were made up of people who were interested in what was happening in the colonies and who wanted to stay informed about it. They would write letters to each other with news and information, and they would also share ideas about how to deal with the problems they were facing.

The committees were important because they helped people in different colonies communicate with each other and work together. For example, if one colony was having trouble with the British government or with soldiers, they could write to the other colonies and ask for help. The committees helped to spread news and information quickly, which made it easier for people to stay informed and to make decisions together.

So, a committee of correspondence was basically a secret group that helped people in the colonies communicate with each other and work together during the American Revolution. It was like a big group chat with all your friends, but for really important stuff!
