Composite overwrapped pressure vessel

Have you ever seen a balloon? It's a thin, stretchy material that can hold air inside. That's kind of like a composite overwrapped pressure vessel!

A composite overwrapped pressure vessel is a container that holds gas or liquid at high pressures. It's made of two parts: an inner liner that holds the gas or liquid and an outer layer made of fiber-reinforced plastic.

The fiber-reinforced plastic layer is made of really strong fibers (like carbon fiber) that are woven together and then wrapped around the inner liner. This makes the pressure vessel super strong so it can hold the gas or liquid without breaking.

These pressure vessels are used in many different places, like in scuba diving tanks, gas storage tanks for fuel cell vehicles, and even on spaceships! They can be made in different sizes and shapes depending on what they are used for.
