Compote

Okay kiddo, so you know how sometimes we have a lot of fruit and they might start to go bad? Well, instead of throwing them away, we can make something called compote!

Compote is basically fruit that has been cooked down in water and sugar until it becomes a soft and sweet sauce. It's like the fruit version of jam, but it's not as thick and you can often still see little pieces of fruit in it.

To make compote, we take our fruit (usually things like berries, peaches, or apples) and we chop them up into small pieces. Then we put them in a pot with some water and sugar, and we cook it over low heat until the fruit gets all soft and the syrup gets thick and sweet.

Compote is really great for adding to things like oatmeal, yogurt, or ice cream. It can also be used as a topping or filling for cakes and pies. And the best part is, you get to use up fruit that might have otherwise gone to waste!
