ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Computer to film

Okay, so you know how we use computers to make pretty pictures and cool videos, right? Well, sometimes people want to take those pictures and videos and put them on a big screen for lots of people to see. But, there's a problem - the big screens can't really show digital pictures very well. So, what do we do?

We use something called "computer to film"! That means we take the digital pictures and videos and turn them into something that can be put on a big screen. This thing is called "film", and it's like a big, thin sheet that has pictures and videos on it.

But how do we turn digital stuff into film? Well, that's where the computer comes in. The computer helps us change the digital pictures and videos into a special language that the film can understand. It's kind of like how you might have to learn a different language if you go on vacation somewhere far away. The computer helps us translate the pictures and videos so they can go onto the film.

Once the computer has finished translating everything, we put the film in a special printer. The printer takes the film and puts the pictures and videos onto it using special ink. And voila! We now have a big sheet of film with pictures and videos on it that can be shown on a big screen for lots of people to see.

So, that's basically what "computer to film" means. We use computers to change digital pictures and videos into a special language that can be put onto film, which is a big sheet that can be shown on a big screen. Pretty cool, huh?
