ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

nuclear physics

Nuclear physics is the study of tiny particles called atoms. Atoms are the tiniest pieces of matter that make up everything around us. Atoms have a nucleus in the middle, which is made of protons and neutrons. In nuclear physics, we study how the nucleus works. We learn how to split atoms apart (called fission) and how to make new atoms (called fusion). We can use this to make electricity, create new medicines, and even build weapons.
