ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Computing

Computing is like a big brain that can help us do lots of things, like playing games or doing our homework.

Computers work kind of like our brains do, but they don't think like we do. They follow instructions called code, which tells them what to do.

There are two main parts to computing: hardware and software.

Hardware is like the body of the computer. It's made up of parts like the keyboard, mouse and screen, which we can see and touch. It also includes the motherboard, CPU, and memory, which we can't see because they're inside the computer.

Software is like the brains of the computer. It's made up of programs that give instructions to the hardware, telling it what to do. There are lots of different types of software, like apps, games, and programs that help us do things like edit photos or write reports.

Computers communicate with each other using something called the internet. The internet is like a big network that links computers all over the world. It allows us to send emails, watch videos and do lots of other things online.

So that's computing - it's like having a really smart friend who can help us do all sorts of things!
