ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Confederate colonies

Okay kiddo, let me explain what confederate colonies are.

Imagine living in a big house with lots of your friends. You all have your own rooms and toys, but you also have to share the common areas like the living room and the kitchen.

Now, imagine that instead of a house, we're talking about a whole bunch of states or areas. In the past, there were 13 colonies in America that were ruled by the British. But some of the people living in those colonies didn't like being told what to do by the British government, and wanted more freedom to make their own rules.

So, they decided to join together and form their own group called the Confederation. Like living in a big house with your friends, these colonies agreed to work together to protect themselves and make decisions that would affect everyone. But they still had their own individual rules and governments for their specific colony.

However, as time went on, some of the colonies realized they weren't happy with how things were going. They wanted even more freedom and control over their own affairs. So, they decided to break away from the Confederation and form their own country called the Confederate States of America.

This caused a big war between the Confederate States and the United States, also known as the Civil War. In the end, the Confederate States lost and the country remained united under the United States government.

So, in short, confederate colonies were a group of individual colonies that joined together to form the Confederation, but some wanted even more freedom and broke away to form their own country called the Confederate States of America.
