ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Consequentialism

Consequentialism is a way of looking at life and decisions. It says that when making a decision, you should think about what the best result or outcome can be. You shouldn't worry too much about the method of getting there, but rather focus on the outcome. For example, if you are trying to decide if you should help your friend with their homework, you should think about what the best possible outcome would be for them in the long run. Would helping them now (even if it's unfair or breaks a rule) result in a better outcome for them in the future? If so, then you should go ahead and help them.
