Conservation-reliant species are animals or plants that need protection and special care from humans to survive because their natural habitats have been damaged or destroyed by humans. Just like when you hug your teddy bear to keep it safe and well, conservationists have to hug these species by taking care of them and their homes.
Imagine these species live in houses made of candy. One day many people came by and ate all the candy houses. The animal or plant couldn't live in a house like it used to anymore. Instead, some kind people gave the species new houses made of other materials to keep them alive, like wood or grass. The species still needs a lot of help to stay alive because their old homes don't survive anymore.
Some of these species need so much help that we have to create special areas, like zoos or botanical gardens, for them to live in. We also have to make sure their new homes are safe and comfortable for them to live in, just like we take care of our own homes.
This is important because every species has a role to play in the environment. For instance, bees help pollinate flowers and plants, and wolves help keep other animal populations in check. So, preserving these species also helps maintain a healthy balance in nature.
