A constant-Q transform is a way of taking sound and breaking it up into parts so that we can understand what's happening. Imagine an orchestra playing, we can't really hear all the different parts of all the instruments, but if we had a way to separate out all the different notes, we would be able to hear everything much more clearly. That's what the constant-Q transform does! It takes the sound and breaks it into tiny pieces, so we can hear all the individual notes and sounds, just like you might hear in an orchestra.
