Contrapposto

Contrapposto is a fancy art term that means standing in a special way. Imagine you're standing with one leg slightly bent and your weight on one foot. This makes your hip stick out a little on one side and your shoulder on the opposite side. This is what we call contrapposto in art.

This special way of standing makes the sculpture look relaxed and natural. It's like being in the middle of walking or dancing, where you're not standing still with both feet flat on the ground.
