ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Copy editing

Copy editing is like when Mom or Dad checks your homework for mistakes. It's like a coach who looks at your soccer moves and makes suggestions on how you can improve your play. When a copy editor looks at a piece of writing, they make sure things are spelled right, words are used correctly, and the sentences make sense. They also look for things like punctuation and grammar mistakes or anything that doesn't sound right, so the writing can be as clear and easy to read as possible. Just like how you make sure your homework is perfect before turning it in, copy editors make sure writing is perfect before it's published or shared with other people.
