Coquina

Coquina is a type of rock that is made up of lots and lots of tiny shells. These shells belong to animals that used to live in the ocean a long time ago. When these animals died, their shells fell to the bottom of the ocean and piled up on top of each other. Over time, the weight of all these shells caused them to stick together and turn into solid rock. Coquina is usually beige or light gray in color and can be found in places where there used to be shallow oceans, like Florida. Sometimes, people use coquina to make buildings or other structures because it is strong and looks pretty cool!
