Coset

You know how when you play with toys, you can have different groups of toys? Maybe you have a group of cars and a group of stuffed animals. But sometimes, you might want to combine some of your cars with your friend's cars to make a bigger group. That's kind of like what a coset is!

In math, cosets are like groups of things that you put together. But instead of toys, you're working with numbers. Let's say you have a group of numbers, like {1, 2, 3, 4, 5}. You can make a coset of this group by choosing one number to be the "leader" of the group, and then adding or subtracting the other numbers by a certain amount. So if you choose 2 as the leader, you can make a coset that looks like this: {2, 3, 4, 5, 6}.

The cool thing about cosets is that they can help you figure out certain things about numbers. For example, if you have two cosets, you can see if they overlap at all. If they don't, that means the two groups of numbers are completely separate. But if they do overlap, it means there's something special about those numbers that they have in common.
