ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Cost per procedure

So, when you go to the doctor, they might have to do something to help you get better. That thing they do is called a procedure. And every time they do that procedure, it costs a certain amount of money.

Let's say you need to get a shot. The cost of that shot is the cost per procedure. It's like if you wanted to buy a toy at the store. Each toy costs a certain amount of money, and that's the cost per toy.

So, when doctors or hospitals figure out how much they need to charge you for a procedure, they think about how much it costs them to do it. That includes things like the equipment they use, the medicine they give you, and how long it takes the doctor or nurse to do it.

Sometimes, people have insurance to help pay for the cost of procedures. But if you don't have insurance, you might have to pay the full cost yourself. It's important to remember that different procedures can have different costs, so it's always a good idea to ask your doctor or hospital how much things will cost before you agree to have them done.
