Counterculture

Counterculture is when different groups of people decide to challenge the beliefs, values, and behaviors that are popular or accepted in society at the time. Counterculture is usually against the governments or societies ideals, or just about anything that is seen as normal. For example, during the 1960s there was a big counterculture movement known as the hippie movement. This movement challenged many of the attitudes that were held by the adults of the time, such as peace and love, freedom of expression, and psychedelic drugs. Counterculture can also be used in a more positive way, such as when activist groups protest the government's policies or bring awareness to different issues in society.
