ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Covetousness

Hello there! So, covetousness is when you really, really want something that someone else has, even though you don't necessarily need it or it isn't yours to have.

Think of it like when you're playing with a toy and your friend has a different toy that you think looks really cool. You might start to feel like you really, really want their toy even though you already have your own toy to play with.

Covetousness isn't always about toys, though. It can be about anything that someone else has that you wish you had instead. Maybe it's a fancy phone, a brand new bike, or even something as small as a shiny rock.

Now, it's okay to admire things that other people have, but it's not okay to obsess over them or to try and take them for yourself without asking. That's called being greedy, and it's not a good thing.

Instead, try to appreciate what you do have and be happy for others when they get something cool. If it's something you really want, you can always ask nicely if you can borrow it or play with it for a little while. And remember, the most important things in life aren't things at all - they're the people you love and the experiences you have with them.
