ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Crane (railroad)

Okay, kiddo, have you ever seen those big, tall machines that lift things up really high? They're called cranes!

Well, there are also cranes on really, really big vehicles called trains. These cranes are like big metal arms that can move back and forth and up and down. They use them to lift heavy things, like big pieces of metal or even whole train cars, from one place to another.

You know how trains ride on tracks, right? These cranes are attached to the tracks so they can move up and down them, just like the train does. Sometimes they even have wheels so they can move around on the tracks, like a little train on top of the big train!

So, basically, a crane on a railroad is like a giant robot arm that can pick up really heavy things and move them around on the train tracks. Pretty cool, huh?
