A cresset is a special kind of light that was used a long time ago when people didn't have electricity. It was made of a metal (like iron) bowl or basket that was filled with things that could burn, like wood or coal. Then they would light the things on fire to create light.
The metal bowl or basket was usually hung or carried on a stick, so people could move it around to where they needed light. Cressets were used in many different places, like castles or streets, to help people see in the dark.
Today, cressets are still used in some special events or celebrations, like festivals or concerts, to create a fun and exciting atmosphere. However, we now have much safer and efficient ways to create light, like light bulbs and LED lights.
