Cretan school

The Cretan school is a type of art that was popular in the Greek island of Crete a long time ago. This kind of art focuses on painting big and beautiful pictures on walls, ceilings and wooden panels that usually show stories and events from the Bible or Greek mythology.

The painters who did this art were really good at making the pictures look like they were real and they added lots of bright colors to make them extra special. They also used a special technique called "Byzantine" where they added lots of details to the pictures to make them look more ornate and fancy.

The Cretan school was famous all around Europe and many people wanted to have paintings in the same style in their homes and churches. However, this kind of art slowly faded away over time and now it is only a part of history that people can see in museums or in old buildings that have not been destroyed.
