ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Criminal

A criminal means someone who has done something bad, like steal or hurt someone, and has broken the rules that we all have to follow. Just like how you have rules to follow at home or school, there are rules that everyone in a society has to follow so that everyone can live happily and safely.

When someone breaks one of these rules, it is called a crime, and the person who did it is called a criminal. The things that criminals do can be very dangerous and hurt people or things, which is why we have rules in place to make sure they are caught and punished for what they have done.

The punishment for a crime can vary depending on what was done and how serious it is. Sometimes the punishment might be a fine or community service, but other times it could be going to jail or prison for a certain amount of time. This is because it is important for the person who did the crime to understand that what they did was wrong and that they have to take responsibility for their actions.

It is also important to remember that just because someone did something bad, it doesn't mean they are a bad person forever. Sometimes people make mistakes and do things they regret, but it is important for them to learn from those mistakes and make things right.

So, in summary, a criminal is someone who has broken the rules and done something bad, and they can be punished to help them understand how important it is to follow the rules and do the right thing.
