Rule of law

The rule of law means that everybody in the country must follow the same set of laws and rules. Think of the laws and rules as a road map – if you follow the map, you'll know what you're allowed to do, and you won't get lost. Even if you don't always agree with the laws, everybody has to follow them. That means that the president and the police and you and your parents must all play by the same set of rules. That way, nobody can break the rules to get an unfair advantage or treat somebody unfairly.
