Criminal appeal

When someone is convicted of a crime, they sometimes choose to appeal the decision. This means they ask a higher court to look at the case again to decide if the lower court made the right decision. If the higher court thinks the lower court made a mistake, they can change the decision of the lower court, which might lead to the convicted person being released or the charges against them being dropped.
