ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Critical lens

Okay, imagine you have two different pairs of glasses. Each pair of glasses makes everything you see look different. One pair of glasses makes everything look happy and positive, and the other pair of glasses makes everything look sad and negative.

Now imagine that when you read a book, you have to wear one of these pairs of glasses. The pair of glasses you wear while reading the book is called the "critical lens." The critical lens you choose will change the way you see the book and the ideas in it.

For example, if you choose the happy and positive glasses, you might see the book as full of hope and adventure. But if you choose the sad and negative glasses, you might see the book as dark and full of danger.

The important thing to remember is that no matter which glasses you choose, they are just one way to see the book. There are many ways to understand a story, and it's up to you to choose which lens you want to use.
