Cuisine of the Mediterranean

The Mediterranean is a big body of water that is surrounded by many different countries, like Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, and Morocco. Each of these countries has its own special way of making food, but they also share some common things that make up the Mediterranean cuisine.

The first thing you should know is that people in the Mediterranean love to eat fresh fruits and vegetables. They grow lots of them in their gardens and they use them to make all kinds of dishes. They also like to use olive oil, which is made from olives that grow on trees in the Mediterranean.

Another big part of Mediterranean cuisine is seafood. Since the Mediterranean is a big sea, people have been fishing there for centuries. They catch different kinds of fish and shellfish and use them in different dishes. For example, in Spain, they make a dish called paella that is made with rice and lots of seafood like shrimp, mussels, and squid.

The Mediterranean is also famous for some tasty cheeses like feta, halloumi, and ricotta. These cheeses are used in many dishes like salads, pasta, and even on top of pizza!

Finally, people in the Mediterranean love to eat bread. They make different kinds of bread like pita or focaccia and use them to dip in olive oil or to make sandwiches.
