Cultural treatments of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

At the end of World War II, the United States dropped two powerful atomic bombs on two Japanese cities, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The atomic bombs killed tens of thousands of people and changed the way that people view war forever.

The people of Japan reacted to the bombings with shock and sadness. They were left with a feeling of horror and sorrow for the lives that were lost. In Japan, the bombings are remembered every year on August 6th (for Hiroshima) and August 9th (for Nagasaki). People around the world, who were not directly affected by the bomb, also remember and reflect upon these events.

In the United States, people remember the bombings differently. Some feel that it was necessary to use the atomic bombs in order to bring the war to an end. Others feel very strongly that the bombings were unneccesary and immoral.

Today, people around the world, regardless of their point of view, acknowledge and pay respect to the immense suffering of the atomic bombings. Hiroshima and Nagasaki are now symbols of the power and human cost of war.
