Cut and run

"Cut and run" means to quit or leave a situation quickly and without trying to fix any problems. Imagine you were playing with some toys and accidentally knocked over a tower you had built. You could either try to fix it by putting the pieces back together or you could just walk away and leave the mess for someone else to clean up. If you chose to walk away without fixing your mistake, you would be "cutting and running." It's not the best choice because it leaves a problem for someone else to fix, but sometimes people do it anyways.
