ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Cyclosportive

Okay, so you know how sometimes grown-ups like to ride their bicycles really, really far? Like, way farther than just going around the block a few times? Well, sometimes they do this on special days where lots and lots of other grown-ups get together and ride their bikes, too. This big bike ride is called a cyclosportive.

Now, a cyclosportive is not a race, so nobody is trying to get to the finish line faster than everyone else. Instead, they are just trying to have fun and maybe challenge themselves to ride their bikes way farther than they ever have before. Some people even use cyclosportives to raise money for good causes, like helping sick kids or protecting the environment.

The people who ride in a cyclosportive usually have to pay to enter, kind of like how you might have to pay to go on a big slide at the water park. And just like how you might get a special bracelet or stamp to show that you have paid to go on the slide, the riders in a cyclosportive might get a special wristband or bib number to show that they have paid to be part of the big bike ride.

But the most important thing about a cyclosportive is that it's just a fun way for grown-ups to get outside and ride their bikes together. And who knows? Maybe someday you will be a grown-up who loves to ride bikes, too!
