ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Gran Fondo

A gran fondo is a big bike ride where lots of people get together to ride bikes on the same route. It's like a really long bike trip that lots of people go on together. Usually, a gran fondo is for people who really like to bike and want to challenge themselves to ride a long distance.

At the beginning of the ride, everyone starts at the same place and everyone is given a number to wear on their bike so that the organizers can keep track of who is riding. The route is mapped out beforehand and marked with signs or arrows to make sure everyone knows which way to go.

There might be different routes you can choose from, depending on how far you want to ride. Some routes might only be a few miles long, while others can be over 100 miles! That's a really long way to bike!

During the ride, there might be rest stops where you can take a break and get some food and water. You'll need to make sure you stay hydrated and fed while you ride, especially if you're riding for a long time.

At the end of the ride, everyone finishes in the same place and there might be a big celebration with food and music. You'll feel really proud of yourself for finishing the ride and pushing yourself to complete the distance.

Overall, a gran fondo is a fun way to ride bikes with other people and challenge yourself to ride a longer distance than you might normally bike. It's a great way to get some exercise and see new parts of the world from the seat of your bike!
