DOT-111 tank car

You know how you have toy cars that you play with? Well, some real-life cars are much bigger and they carry important things like oil, gasoline, and chemicals. But these things can be dangerous if they spill, so they must be carried in special cars called tank cars.

One type of tank car is called a DOT-111. It’s like a big metal tube with two ends and it can hold about 34,500 gallons of liquid. To keep the liquid safe and secure, the tank car is specially designed with thick walls and a strong frame to protect it from bumps and accidents.

When the DOT-111 tank car is filled with liquid, it stays on a track and is pulled by a big train engine to transport whatever is inside. This helps make sure that the liquid gets to where it needs to go safely without spilling or hurting anyone.

Sometimes people worry about the DOT-111 tank cars because they are not as strong as some newer models and could potentially spill their contents if they get damaged in an accident. That’s why some people are working to make sure that all the tank cars on the railroad are as safe as possible to keep everyone and everything protected.
