ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Dabke

Dabke is a fun dance that people do in countries like Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Jordan and Iraq. It's almost like a group dance and you do it with your friends or family. To do the dabke dance, first you gather together in a circle or a line, and one person leads the dance.

The leader moves their feet and the rest of the group follows. The leader might stomp on the floor, kick their feet out, or slide side to side. And everyone else tries to copy what they're doing. The goal is to make the dance look really coordinated and cool!

Dabke is a way for people to celebrate their cultural heritage and to have fun with their friends and family. Sometimes it's done at weddings or other big celebrations, and other times people will just do it for fun.

So if you ever get a chance to try dabke, give it a go! It's a way to connect with people and have fun while learning something new.
