ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Data extraction

Data extraction is when you get information from a computer or other electronic device and store it somewhere else. Imagine that you have a book with lots of text in it. To get the information out of the book, you need to read the text and then write down each piece of information. Data extraction is the same idea, except the information is stored in a computer instead of a book. A computer program is used to read the information and save it in a different format, like a spreadsheet. So data extraction is the process of taking information from a computer or electronic device and putting it somewhere else.
