ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Dateline

Dateline is just like the imaginary line that goes around the middle of the earth, called the equator. But instead of going around the earth, dateline goes up and down, from the North Pole to the South Pole. It helps people know what day it is in different parts of the world.

When people travel from one place to another, they might cross over the dateline. When they do, they might have to change the date on their watch or phone. This is because on one side of the dateline, it might be Monday, but on the other side it might be Tuesday.

The dateline is also used by people who work in different time zones. They use it to figure out when it's time to have a video meeting or call with someone who lives far away. By knowing what time it is on either side of the dateline, they can make sure everyone is on the same page and talking at the right time.

So, think of the dateline like a big imaginary line that helps people keep track of time all over the world. It's pretty cool!
