Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples

Okay kiddo, you know how sometimes when you play with your friends, one friend might try to tell the others what they can and can't do? Well, a long time ago, there were some grown-up countries that tried to do the same thing to other countries. They would go to these countries and basically say "you have to do what we say because we're bigger and stronger than you."

This was called colonialism, and it was not fair or nice at all. The people in the colonized countries were treated very poorly and didn't get to make their own rules or decisions.

Eventually, a lot of people started speaking up and saying that this was wrong. They believed that all countries and all people should be treated equally and have the right to make their own choices.

So, a big group of countries got together and wrote something called the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples. It basically said that all countries have the right to be independent and make their own decisions, and that nobody should be able to tell them what to do.

It was a really important document because it helped a lot of countries become independent and start making their own rules and decisions. It also showed that people from all over the world can come together and agree on something really important.
