ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Delayed density dependence

Delayed density dependence is like when the number of people in a room affects how much noise they make - the more people in the room, the louder they get. Except with delayed density dependence, it doesn't happen right away. Instead, the number of people in the room has an effect on how much noise they make, but it takes some time for the effect to show. So if 10 people enter the room, the room may not get that much louder right away, but over time the noise will get louder and louder as the number of people keeps increasing.
