Demographic history of Montenegro

Montenegro is a small country located in Southeastern Europe, and its history is shaped by the different people who have lived there over time.

A long time ago, the Illyrians were the first people to live there and they were followed by the Romans who ruled the area for many years. Then, after the fall of the Roman Empire, the Slavic people came and settled in Montenegro, leading to it becoming a Slavic state.

Over time, Montenegro became a part of different empires and kingdoms, including the Byzantine Empire, the Serbian Empire, and the Ottoman Empire. During this time, many different people came to live in Montenegro, including Turkish, Albanian, and Croatian people.

In the 20th century, Montenegro was a part of Yugoslavia, which was a country made up of many different ethnic groups. After Yugoslavia fell apart in the 1990s, Montenegro became an independent country.

Today, Montenegro is home to many different ethnic groups, including Montenegrins, Serbians, Bosniaks, Albanians, and Croats. These different groups all have their own cultures, traditions, and languages, but they all live together peacefully in Montenegro.
