Desensitization (medicine)

Okay, so you know how when you touch something that's really hot, like a stove, it hurts a lot and you don't want to touch it again? That's because your body is sensitive to the heat and tells your brain it hurts.

But sometimes, if someone needs to get a shot or take medicine that might make them feel sick, the doctor might want to help them not feel so sensitive to it. That's where desensitization comes in.

Desensitization is when a doctor slowly exposes someone to something they're sensitive to, like medicine or the things that might make them feel sick. They start with really small amounts and make sure the person is okay with each step. If they are, then the doctor can slowly increase the amount until the person's body isn't as sensitive to it anymore.

This helps people who need medicine or treatment to be able to handle it better without getting sick or having a bad reaction. It's like getting used to the heat of the stove so it doesn't hurt as much anymore.
