Detrusor muscle

The detrusor muscle is a special kind of muscles you have in your body that play an important role in what happens when you need to pee.

When you feel like you need to empty your bladder, your brain sends a signal that tells your detrusor muscle to contract. When this happens, the muscle gets shorter and tighter, which squeezes your bladder and pushes the pee out through a tube called the urethra.

The detrusor muscle is important because it helps you control when you pee and how much you pee. Without it, you might have a harder time holding your pee or controlling when you need to go.
