Disdrometer

A disdrometer is a tool used to measure the size and number of raindrops during a rainstorm. Imagine you are outside on a rainy day, and you see lots of little drops falling from the sky. A disdrometer helps scientists understand how big those drops are and how many of them there are.

The disdrometer has a special plate that catches the raindrops as they fall from the sky. When a raindrop hits the plate, it makes a sound that the disdrometer can hear. The disdrometer uses this sound to figure out how big the raindrop was that made the sound.

Scientists use disdrometers to collect a lot of data about rainstorms. They can learn about how much rain falls in a certain area, how big the raindrops are, and how fast they are falling. This information can help them understand more about weather patterns and how they might change in the future.
