ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Distributed generation

Distributed generation (or DG for short) is like a mini power plant. Instead of having one big power plant that makes a lot of electricity, a bunch of small power plants are put in different places throughout a community and all of those small power plants work together to make electricity. It's like having a lot of little light switches instead of one big one - if one little generator goes out, there are still plenty of other light switches that can still turn the lights on.
