ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Demand response

Demand response is a way for people to save money on their energy bills. It works like this: When there is a lot of energy being used in an area, the power companies might ask people to use less energy. This helps the power company avoid having to turn on extra sources of power, like expensive power plants. So, if people turn down their thermostats, turn off lights and electronics, or delay doing chores like laundry and dishwashing, they will save money on their energy bills, and they'll also help the power company save money.
