A diversity index is a number that can show how different and varied something is. For example, if you have a garden with different kinds of flowers, you could use a diversity index to figure out how many different kinds of flowers there are. A diversity index could also help you calculate how many different kinds of animals are using your garden. Basically, a diversity index is a way to measure how diverse and different something is.
