Donkey Stone

A donkey stone is a type of cleaning material that was commonly used a long time ago, before advanced cleaning products were invented. It is a small, solid piece of stone that is shaped like a brick or a rectangle, and it is usually gray or brown in color.

People would use donkey stones to scrub and clean their doorsteps, fireplaces, and other surfaces around their homes. To use a donkey stone, they would first wet it with water, then rub it back and forth on the surface they wanted to clean. The stone would create a soapy, foamy texture as it scrubbed away dirt and grime.

The name "donkey stone" comes from the fact that these cleaning materials used to be made from powdered donkey bones. People would grind up the bones to make a powder, then mix it with other ingredients like clay, soap, and water to create the stone.

Today, donkey stones are no longer commonly used for cleaning, since we have more advanced cleaning products and tools. However, they are still sometimes used for historic preservation projects or as a nostalgic item for collectors.
