Dramaturgy (sociology)

Dramaturgy is a way of understanding how people act, especially how they act in public. When people are in public, like in the workplace or at a social gathering, all of the other people in the room can observe how they act. This is called the 'theatre' of the situation. Dramaturgy is a way of understanding how people act in these kinds of situations. It looks at how people make decisions about how they will act, how they will dress, and how they will speak. There are certain expectations of how people usually act in certain situations, and dramaturgy looks at how people choose to meet or break those expectations.
