Dressing (medical)

Dressing is like a special bandage that we put on our body when we have a cut or a wound, so it can heal properly. Just like how we put a bandaid on a scraped knee to help it heal, a dressing is a bigger bandage that can cover more of our body.

Doctors and nurses use different types of dressings depending on how big the wound is, where it is on our body, and what kind of healing it needs. Sometimes the dressing has special medicine on it to help our body fight off germs and bacteria, or to reduce pain and swelling.

When a wound is healing, our body also makes fluids and pus that need to come out. So, a dressing also helps to absorb these fluids so they don't stay on our skin and cause other problems.

Changing the dressing is important too! Our body needs to heal in a clean environment, so the dressing needs to be changed regularly to keep the wound clean and healthy. This can be a little bit painful, but the doctor or nurse will make sure to do it as gently as possible to keep us comfortable.

Overall, a dressing might seem like a big, scary bandage, but it's actually there to help us heal faster and keep our bodies healthy.
